A Thai Visa is required by foreigners to enter the Kingdom of Thailand. Thai Visa exemptions to this rule are as follows:
1. Foreign Nationals of the following Countries will be allowed to enter The Kingdom of Thailand without a Visa and to stay for up to 30 days for the purpose of Tourism unless they enter via a land border crossing from a country adjoining Thailand in which case they will be allowed to stay for a period not exceeding 15 days with the exception of Malaysian citizens who will be allowed to stay for a period not exceeding 30 days if they enter Thailand overland from Malaysia.
Notes: All foreign nationals entering Thailand under the Visa Exemption Rule must be in possession of a minimum of Baht 10000 or Baht 20000 per family and be able to show proof of onward travel within 30 days.
Visitors who enter Thailand under the Visa Exemption Rule will only be allowed to make 3 consecutive entries in any 6 month period. eg. 30+30+30 days within 6 months.
An extension of stay of up to 10 days may be applied for at any Thai Immigration office.

2. Foreign nationals from the following countries will be allowed to apply for a Visa on Arrival at any of the 24 designated International Checkpoints if their visit is for the purpose of tourism and their stay in Thailand will not exceed 15 days. All of Thailand’s International Airports have Visa on Arrival Checkpoints. Under normal circumstances, a Visa on Arrival may not be extended beyond the original 15 days.

Notes: A Visa on Arrival will cost Baht 1000. All applicants must be in possession of a minimum of Baht 10000 or Baht 20000 per family and attach a 4x6cm recent photo to the application form. All applicants must hold a passport with at least 6 months validity and have a fully paid ticket to exit Thailand that is usable within 15 days of entry.
Thai Visas
Tourist Visas are issued for stays up to 60 days, are valid for 3 months, and may be extended for up to 30 days at any Thai Immigration Office. Multiple entry Tourist Visas allow up to 4 entries to Thailand and are valid for 6 months. There are many other types of Visa available for activities like Business, Study etc and full details may be obtained from any Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate.
Visa Overstay
Visa overstay is a serious business. If you arrive at an Immigration desk at the airport you will be fined Baht 500 for every day of overstay. However, if you are caught with an out of date visa before you reach the airport you will be arrested and held in a detention centre until you are deported.
