T-Bone – Ska Reggae – Thai Band » Thai Guide To Thailand

Thai Reggae started about 20 years ago with a Thai Band called T-Bone. Formed by a group of college friends, T-Bone, the Ska Reggae Band, took its name from a brand of Jeans of the same name which their lead singer Gap was making at the time. T-Bone started out playing Reggae music, influenced by Bob Marley and gradually introduced Ska and Jazz into their repertoire. In 2005, T-Bone became the first Thai Band to play at the Glastonbury Festival and they were invited back again in 2007. Having also performed in London for a Tsunami benefit, T-Bone is the most internationally recognised Thai Reggae Band and have performed with other famous Bands such as UB40, INXS and Tokyo Ska Paradise.

Unlike the pretty Boy Bands of the current Pop scene, Reggae Bands in Thailand do not receive high financial rewards so many of the members of T-Bone have full time jobs and some perform occasionally with other Bands in Bangkok. One unfortunate effect of this is that they are rarely able to undertake long tours but do perform regularly at concerts throughout Thailand. A list of their future concerts can be found on T-Bone’s own website.
T-Bone have recorded several Albums including a Greatest Hits album called Ruan Pleng Dee T-Bone and a new album is due to be released shortly (Feb 2010).
