Formerly known as Samoh Riang, the name was changed to Hua Hin, which means “Stone Head” in 1911. Hua Hin is a popular holiday resort for Thai people, and, perhaps because of this, the development of Hua Hin as a world class holiday destination has not been nearly as destructive as in many of Thailand’s other beach resorts. Originally, Hua Hin was a Royal Resort popular with Thailand’s upper class, but with the introduction of a railway service from Bangkok, Hua Hin became more accessible to all Thai people.
