Built in the 14th Century, Wat Sri Sawai is probably the oldest Thai Wat in Sukhothai. Wat Sri Sawai with its three very distinctive Prangs or Chedis was built in the Khmer style. The Middle Prang of the Temple measures over 20m high. The three Chedis are decorated with stucco images. Several Hindu images were found at Wat Sri Sawai which has given rise to speculation that it may originally have been built as a Hindu Temple.
Wat Sri Sawai and the surrounding laterite wall has undergone a little reconstruction over the years. Located about 300m to the West of Wat Mahathat, Wat Sri Sawai which is partially surrounded by a large pond is an extremely attractive and interesting Temple which is important in the history of Sukhothai.
