There are two Thai Temples named Wat Chang Lom in Sukhothai. This one which is located just outside the city behind the Legendha Resort, and the one in Si Satchanalai. Chang Lom means surrounded by elephants and this Thai Wat is certainly that.
Wat Chang Lom was once a very large Temple. Unfortunately, today only the main Chedi is in relatively good condition. The Assembly Hall which once enshrined a Buddha image has only its columns remaining as does the Ordination Hall. As was common at that time, the Temple is surrounded by a moat.

A 15th Century stone inscription found at Wat Chang Lom tells about a nobleman known as Phanom Sai Dam. Phanom Sai Dam was very loyal to his King, and when the King died he donated this piece of land for the building of a Temple as well as constructing a Buddha Image in dedication to the consort of the deceased King. The inscription also tells us that Phanom Sai Dam planted a Bodhi tree here.

Wat Chang Lom is a very peaceful and atmospheric Temple hidden away as it is from the tourist crowds so is well worth a visit. You can do as we did and stay at the Legendha Resort. What could be better than the early morning view from your bedroom window of this ancient and important Temple.
