Samchuk – Teenage Movie – Thai Boys and Yah Bah » Thai Guide To Thailand

Samchuk is a recently released teenage movie about 7 Thai boys who get hooked on the drug known as Yah Bah. Set in rural Thailand, Samchuk is a teenage movie based on real events.

Directed by Tanit Jitnukul, the movie is about the dedication and determination of the boy’s teacher, Pinij (Poramet Noi-um) who single handedly takes it upon himself to help the boys try to kick their drug habit and stop using Yah Bah.

Samchuk depicts in some detail the varying unhappy circumstances that led the boys to start their drug habit. At the beginning of the movie, the Teacher, Pinij, discovers the boys hiding from the police and makes a deal with them that if they tell him everything he will not inform the police. There are various heart rending scenes from the family lives of each of the boys including Wan, played by Teerapat Yamsri, the leader of the group. Pinji starts an exercise routine with the boys and encourages them to try to grow roses as part of their rehabilitation.

At first all seems to be going well, but due to outside pressures from family, friends and the community, the boys have a relapse and indulge in a huge drugs blow-out.

Symbolically, the roses that the boys were trying to grow refuse to grow and wither. Once again, the teacher Pinij comes forward to rescue the boys when they cause havoc in the local market and faces up to the angry stall holders and parents whom he accuses of doing nothing to help and treating the boys as outcasts. New rose bushes are planted, early morning jogging begins again and gradually the boy’s drug habit is broken. The movie ends with the boys being just normal schoolboys and they show their gratitude to the only person who was willing to help, Pinij, their teacher.
