Petchtai Wongkamlao, better known as Mum or Mum Jokmok was born on the 24th June 1963, in the Isaan province of Yasothon, N.E. Thailand. Petchtai Wongkamlao had 7 brothers and sisters. His younger sister ran away from home at the age of about 16 and went to Bangkok where she became a comedian. Shortly afterwards, Mum was to follow his sister to Bangkok where he also became a comedian. As a comedian he toured the Bangkok Cafe scene and formed his own comedy group called Mum Jokmok. The other members of the comedy team were Teng Tertterng, Nong Chachasa, Jaturong JokMok and Por Jokmok. At this time, Mum also performed as a Mor Lam singer and recorded an album called Het Jang Dai.
Mum quickly rose to fame after his appearances along with Teng and Nong, on the TV Game Show, Ching Roi Ching Lahn which was hosted by Panya Nirankul and became a household name and one of Thailand’s most talented and loved comedians. In addition Mum hosts his own Saturday night Show called Mum Show.
Petchtai Wongkamlao began his acting career as a comic relief in the the hugely successful Thai Movie Ong Bak (Muay Thai Warrior) which starred Tony Jaa and also in the follow-up Tom Yum Goong. His first starring role was in the movie Killer Tattoo which was released in 2001. Following the success of Ong Bak, Mum went on to write direct and star in the Thai movie The Bodyguard. Since then Mum Jokmok has appeared in, starred in or written and directed many films including The Bodyguard 2, Yaem Yasothon, Ong Bak 2, and Yaem Yasothon 2 which is due to be released on 3rd December 2009, Ong Bak 3 due for release early in 2010.
Petchtai Wongkamlao has been married to Moht Endu for over 20 years and they have a daughter Busarakam Wongkamlao (Em) and a son Paytai Wongkamlao (Mick)
