Meditation Centers-Thailand Meditation Guide

With many meditation Centers all over the country, Thailand is an ideal country for Meditation study and practice (see our Thailand Meditation Guide) both because of its Buddhist heritage and its climate.

Many of the Meditation Centers listed below require pre-registration and as some of the meditation centers can be quite busy at times you should try to give as much notice as possible. The Cold Season (Nov-Feb) is usually the busiest period. Whilst you do not have to be a Buddhist to attend meditation courses and retreats, many of the Centers are in Buddhist Temples and you will be required to follow certain rules during your stay. Many, but not all the centers, offer instruction in English but you should check before enrolling as in some cases there may only be one person who can speak English and if that person is not available or has moved, instruction may be only available in Thai. Meditation classes can run from a few hours up to a month or more so you should enquire with the Meditation Centers which one has courses that will fit in with your schedule and if they are suitable for your own level of experience.

Clothing requirements differ but you may be able to rent or purchase the required clothing at the Center. Most will also ask you to bring various items with you like personal toiletries, torch, mosquito repellent etc. You will not normally be allowed to wear items of jewelry or use mobile phones.
