Rhynchostylis gigantea (Lindl.) is an epiphytic Thai orchid widely distributed in every region except the South of Thailand. Rhynchostylis gigantea is found throughout most of S.E. Asia and China. The flowering period for this Thai Orchid is December – January. Rhynchostylis gigantea has white flowers with variable reddish purple spots and streaks. The flowers are 2.5 – 3cms across and hang in an inflorescence about 30cms long. The lip of Rhynchostylis gigantea is reddish purple. The leaves are oblong, about 5cms wide and 30 – 40 cms long. In Thailand, Rhynchostylis gigantea (Lindl.) is known as Chang Plai ช้างพลาย.
