Thai Orchid – Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl » Thai Guide To Thailand

Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl is a Thai epiphytic orchid found in all regions of Thailand excepting the Central region. Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl is distributed in the Himalayan ridges, Southern China and S.E.Asia. Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl grows in hilly evergreen forests above 1000m. The flowering period of this Thai orchid is December-March. In Thailand, Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl is known as Uang Si Tan เอื้องสีตาล

The pseudobulbs of Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl are cylindrical in shape, growing to about 30cm long. The leaves are lanceolate about 2cm wide and up to 15cm long. Flowers are axillary, 4-5cm across and are slightly fragrant. The Sepals and Petals of Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl vary in colour from cream to slightly yellowish brown. The lip is yellow in colour with with brownish streaks.
