Saturday 5th December 2009 is the 82nd Birthday of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the reigning constitutional monarch of Thailand. It is also Father’s Day in Thailand and a National Holiday. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born on the 5th December 1927 and became King of Thailand on the 9th June 1946, becoming the 9th King of the Chakri Dynasty. The Coronation ceremony was held on the 5th May 1950. H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the longest serving monarch on the throne of Thailand.

Sadly, some of this year’s celebrations, including the much anticipated King’s Birthday speech, have had to be canceled because of the King’s poor health but it has been stated that His Majesty will make an appearance on his Birthday. The Thai Government has opened an online Birthday Greetings Book for all Thai people to sign and offer to do good deeds on behalf of His Majesty. (http://www.thaigov.go.th)

I would like to join with the rest of the Thai people in wishing H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej a very Happy Birthday.

Long Live The King
