The annual Chiang Mai Flower Festival is one of the highlights of the year in Chiang Mai. The 2010 Chiang Mai Flower Festival is the 34th and is held this year on 5th-7th February. With a carnival atmosphere, the Chiang Mai Flower Festival brings stunning displays of colour and beauty of all descriptions to the City. Suan Bok Haat, where the main events are held, is ablaze with colourful exotic plants, including fantastic orchids and Bonsai trees, many of which are available for sale along with many other OTOP handicraft items. As usual, there is a food festival held alongside so there’s no need to go hungry.

On the 1st evening of the Festival, competitions are held for Miss Flower Bloom and Miss International Flower Bloom but the main event is the parade which takes place on the 2nd day. Beautifully decorated floats with pretty girls dressed in traditional costumes parade through the city with dancing and music. Throughout the 3 day event, various competitions are held for the best flowers in the show, not an easy task for the judges as the standard of the floral displays is so high. After the rather boisterous festivals of Songkran and Loy Kratong, the Chiang Mai Flower Festival is a spectacular event to be enjoyed by everyone, both young and old, and one that is gaining in International recognition.
