The 6th April in Thailand is Chakri Day and is a Public Holiday. Chakri Day celebrates the founding of the Chakri Dynasty, The Royal House of Chakri, in 1782 by His Majesty King Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke. known as Rama 1.
On Chakri Day, the Royal Family, Government officials and the people of Thailand will participate in various ceremoniess throughout the Country, but especially in Bangkok, when offerings will be made and respects paid to the former royal rulers of Thailand. The largest of these ceremonies takes place at the statue of King Rama 1 at the Royal Pantheon in Bangkok. This year, 2011, the hearts and minds of all the the Thai people will be with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej who is still in hospital recovering from illness.
